Meet Intern Gavin Anderson

Gavin Anderson is a Senior at Wright State University studying Computer Science. During Summer 2020, he worked in the Peformance Assessment Division at Aptima.

How would you describe your internship at Aptima in 3 words?

Engaging, Challenging, Rewarding

What has been your favorite aspect of interning at Aptima?

Being trusted in teams to get my hands dirty with full timers on projects instead of being tasked with time wasting “intern projects” that many other companies do.

What has been the most beneficial experience for you?

Returning to school with the knowledge Aptima taught me.

How has your internship prepared you for your future career goals?

Working in the field I would like to one day build a career in is a great chance to see if this is what I would like to do until retirement. Its nice being able to know I made the right choice while I’m still in school vs. graduating and then figuring it out.

What skills have you gained during the course of your internship?

I’ve learned multiple programming languages and how to work well in a team remotely.

How would you describe Aptima’s culture?

Aptima’s culture is very inviting and encourages engagement whether it’s through brown bags, social events, or things like the AptiFit contest. Its great to have a place to work that provides an environment like this that anyone can be a part of if they choose.

What are you doing next or, alternatively, what do you want to do?

I’ve been working here as an intern since Jan 2019 and was hired on part time summer 2019. I plan on staying until graduation and potentially long after.

What do you know now that you wish you would have known when you started your internship?

Everyone hits roadblocks when it comes to problem solving, asking for help, or spending a little bit of time solving it is okay. There is no point in feeling bad about it.
