Dr. Lisa Lucia Receives AFCEA 40 Under 40 Award
AFCEA 40 Under 40 Award Recognizes Innovation, Customer Service, and Volunteerism
Aptima, Inc. announced today that Dr. Lisa Lucia has been selected by the AFCEA for its 40 Under 40 Award. This annual award recognizes 40 individuals ages 40 and under for their significant contributions in a technical science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) field by providing innovation, thought leadership, support to their client or organizations using information technology, and volunteer and community service activities.
Dr. Lucia joined Aptima in 2014. She is currently a scientist is the Performance Assessment Technologies Division, which develops innovative, valid, and reliable solutions to measure human performance at the individual and team levels. Over the past five and a half years at Aptima, she has served in a variety of roles, including Principal Investigator, Project Manager, Scrum Master, Proposal Lead, and Mentor. In addition, Dr. Lucia has served on a variety of Aptima communities of practice (COPs) including the Project Management COP and Talent Management COP, which work to improve the company’s practices and processes, as well as the Charitable Gift Giving Committee. She has also developed the curriculum for and co-taught an in-house Agile Software Development course for Project Managers. Outside of work, Dr. Lucia actively contributes to the STEM development of middle-schoolers. She tutors algebra in an after-school program at a local Boston school every other week and participates as a judge at another local Boston school’s yearly 5th grade science fair. Each year she also co-hosts an annual afternoon STEM activity for a local area Girl Scout troop at Aptima’s Woburn, MA office.
Dr. Lucia Lisa has more than 18 years of experience in both the IT and STEM fields. At Aptima she has contributed her expertise to research and development projects for the Department of Defense, commercial entities including Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, and academic institutions. These projects run the gamut from experimental applied cognitive neuroscience research such as the design and development of programming for the control of a prosthetic arm, to the development of automated assistant software tools for Army intelligence analysts. Prior to Aptima, Dr. Lucia’s work has included investigating the neural underpinnings of schizophrenia; the cognitive neuroscience of vision and memory; the utility of using video games to enhance visuospatial skills; and tools for assessing and preventing delirium among elderly surgery patients.
Dr. Lucia received the Human Performance Analysis and Engineering Best Paper Award at the 2017 Interservice/Industry Training, Simulation and Education Conference (I/ITSEC) for “Assessing submariners’ intuitive decision-making skills using neurocognitive methods.” She holds a Ph.D. in Cognitive Neuroscience from Tufts University and a B.S. in Biological Psychology from Bates College.
