Event Showcases Leading Edge Research from New England Universities
Woburn, MA, October 29, 2010 – Aptima, Inc., a leader in human-centered engineering, was a corporate sponsor of the 7th Annual Student Research Conference of the New England Chapter of the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society (NECHFES) on October 22 in Cambridge, Mass. The one-day event brings together human factors and ergonomics professionals, students, and faculty based in New England. The conference provides undergraduate and graduate students the opportunity for presenting both research and applied projects in the areas of Human Factors and Applied Psychology.
Jointly sponsored by Aptima, Charles River Analytics, Liberty Mutual, and the Microsoft New England Research and Development Center, which also hosted the event, the conference featured John Moore, from the MIT Media Lab, as the keynote speaker. This year’s winners for the Best Presentation Awards were:
- Hui Ying Wen of Tufts University for “Simulating Human-Automation Task Allocations for Space System Design”
- James Won of Massachusetts Institute of Technology for “Assessing Team Workload and Situational Awareness in an Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) Simulation Exercise”
Aptima is a corporate-level sponsor of the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society (HFES), based in Santa Monica, CA. The Society’s mission is to “promote the discovery and exchange of knowledge concerning the characteristics of human beings that are applicable to the design of systems and devices of all kinds.” Founded in 1957, HFES has over 20 technical groups, and local and student chapters across the United States.
Aptima is also a corporate sponsor of the New England Chapter (NECHFES) and has sponsored the Annual Student Conference in past years. Many of the company’s employees are members of HFES and a number of those have played key roles within the Local Chapter.
