Aptima Promotes Two to Senior Management
Company’s policy of ‘promotion from within’ recognizes technical expertise, professional accomplishment, and corporate knowledge
Woburn, MA, August 29, 2011 – Aptima, Inc., the human-centered R&D company that applies expertise in the disciplines of how humans think, learn, and behave to solve challenges faced by the U.S. Department of Defense, announced today the promotion of two members of its staff to the company’s Senior Management team.
Dr. Jason Sidman, Associate Division Director, Cognitive Systems Engineering
Jason Sidman, Ph.D., joined the company in 2003 as a Research Associate. Most recently, he served as the Aptima’s Team Lead for Instructional and Training Technologies, within the company’s Cognitive Systems Engineering (CSE) Division. As Associate Division Director, Dr. Sidman supports the CSE Division Director in the day to day operations of the division, including quality control and management of all contractual work within the division, division business development, and staffing.
Dr. Sidman’s interests are in developing technologies that are seamlessly integrated with the user. These technologies range from training programs to decision support systems. Within the realm of training, Dr. Sidman focuses on training cognitive skills through a principled mapping to training environments that best exercise those skills in the context of a sound instructional design. He considers a range of techniques, ranging from interactive multimedia instruction, to a variety of both computer and non-computer based gaming solutions. Dr. Sidman also applies an analogous approach to the design of decision support systems, which enable users to naturally interact with data in ways that promote exploration and discovery of patterns. These efforts span a broad range of domains from interagency collaboration to rehabilitation of traumatic brain injury.
Dr. Sidman received a Ph.D. and M.S. in Experimental Psychology from Tufts University, and a B.A. in Psychology from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.
Jeanine Ayers, Associate Division Director, Software Engineering
Jeanine Ayers joined the company in 2004 as a Senior Software Engineer. For the past several years, she has served as Aptima’s Team Lead for Intelligent Distributed Systems, within the company’s Software Engineering (SE) Division. In her role as Associate Division Director, Ms. Ayers will support the SE Division Director in day to day operations including helping maintain the highest quality of software engineering across Aptima’s software-related contractual work, division business development, and staffing.
Ms. Ayers’ experience includes leading small teams of software engineers in many development efforts focusing on architecting and building data-driven software applications in support of multi-agent systems, computer based training systems and performance measurement and assessment systems. These applications include multi-robot collaboration, graphical measure authoring, observer based measurement collection, performance measurement calculation engines, dynamic workflow applications, and information management systems. Ms. Ayers also has extensive experience integrating Aptima technology with High Level Architecture (HLA) and Distributed Interactive Simulation (DIS) simulators in DoD environments, including work for the Army, Navy, and Air Force. In addition, her current architecture focus involves implementing service-oriented infrastructures. Ms. Ayers is also responsible for developing after action review capabilities for Close Air Support and Military Operations in Urban Terrains simulation systems, and has lead successful efforts in the areas of Air Force Intelligence applications as well as web-based training.
Ms. Ayers was elected by her peers to serve on the TRAIN SISO committee which promotes the use of simulations to support the acquisition of knowledge and skills through education, training, and performance support. Prior to joining Aptima, she had a variety of senior-level software engineering roles at leading high-tech companies.
Ms. Ayers has an M.B.A from Boston University and a B.S. from Carnegie Mellon University in Industrial Management/Information Systems.
