Aptima Awarded Outstanding Security Award
Aptima, Inc. Awarded 2014 James S. Cogswell Outstanding Industrial Security Achievement Award
Company Recognized Second Time for High Standards in Industrial Security
June 30, 2014 – On Tuesday, June 24, Aptima, Inc. was recognized by the Defense Security Service (DSS) as one of 40 facilities to receive the 2014 James S. Cogswell Outstanding Industrial Security Achievement Award. This is the second time that the company has received this prestigious award.
This year’s Cogswell Award recognized 40 defense contractors from a field of 13,300 companies nominated. DSS goes through a very rigorous evaluation process of all nominated contractors which includes evaluations by several Department of Defense and industry organizations. Nomination and evaluation criteria include the establishment and maintenance of a security program that goes well beyond minimum National Industrial Security Program requirements and demonstration of leadership to other cleared facilities in setting high security standards. In addition, Cogswell awardees need to demonstrate not just excellence within its own organization but collaboration with DSS and other cleared facilities.
The awards ceremony was held in conjunction with the 50th National Classification Management Society (NCMS) (NCMS) Annual Seminar at the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center National Harbor. Accepting the Cogswell Award on behalf of Aptima were CEO Michael J. Paley, CFO/COO Thomas J. McKenna, Corporate Headquarters Security Facility Officer Dorothy F. Hight, Information Systems Security Manager Joel D’Arrigo, and Senior Information Systems Administrator Matthew Troyer.
About the Cogswell Award
The Cogswell award, established in 1966, is named in honor of the late Air Force Col. James S. Cogswell, who was the first chief of the unified office of industrial security within the Department of Defense. Col. Cogswell was responsible for developing the basic principles of the Industrial Security Program, which include an emphasis on the partnership between industry and government to protect classified information, which ultimately helps to ensure the protection of the U.S. war fighter. The Cogswell Award is the most prestigious honor DSS may bestow on a cleared facility and is presented annually.
