Training certainly isn’t what it used to be. New technologies and virtual organizations have changed how we work, the tools we use, and the highly specialized cognitive skills needed for effective performance. And the rate of change is accelerating.
Aptima address these challenges with a unique, "experiential" approach to training system design and development. Using live exercises or simulated environments, our training systems result in accelerated learning, often at a reduced cost.

A total training solution. Aptima accelerates learning by focusing not just on building simulations, but on crafting the total training package. We use scientifically sound methods to link the right training experiences to well defined objectives. We then use measures to assess trainees and the effectiveness of our training systems. We also develop PC and web-based multimedia training software to instruct students before (or after) their simulated or live training experiences.
We create customized training solutions for each client’s needs, leveraging a variety of tools that include:
- The A▪Measure integrated, computer-based performance measurement system (Performance Workbench and SPOTLITE) to collect data;
- A set of innovative communications analysis tools (BroadCAST);
- A Feedback Toolkit with automated debriefing capabilities that provides performance feedback;
- Field-tested methods for identifying training requirements.
Aptima in action. Aptima’s products and services have been applied to a wide range of learning environments, from military systems that link dozens of flight simulators across the U.S., to massive multi-player games where thousands of people inhabit a virtual world.
Specific projects include the development of Mission Essential CompetenciesSM for a variety of Air Force platforms, training materials for Naval Special Warfare Helmsman, distributed training for emergency room teams, and the creation of a multimedia training tool for mission planning at the Joint Readiness Training Center.
