TRAINING REQUIREMENTS

The first critical step to successful training is establishing accurate requirements. This is no easy task in today’s multi-dimensional operating environments. How can organizations be sure they are selecting the right training for the right people? After all, most organizations have limited resources for even the most critical training needs.

Aptima uses a scientific approach to achieve a training "fit" for our clients, so they know their training investment is well spent, and that it meets objectives. We use repeatable and validated methods to accurately capture key job performance requirements – based on the organization’s mission and tailored across various levels of the organization (individuals, teams, and teams of teams).

A step by step approach. We start by producing actionable data to reduce training gaps. We identify experiences necessary to develop proficiency, and define the appropriate training environments. Then we use our technology-based approach to translate these training requirements into measurement systems that provide feedback to enhance learning and assess the program’s effectiveness.

Aptima’s training experts draw on a variety of established techniques to ensure that our approach matches the specific needs of the organization. The methods we use include:

  • Mission Essential Competency (MECSM
  • Competency Modeling
  • Job Analysis
  • Structured Interviews
  • Cognitive Task Analysis
  • Cognitive Work Analysis

Aptima in action. The MECSM process has been successfully applied across multiple Air Force organizations (Intelligence, Command and Control, etc) and platforms (Fighters, Bombers, etc.) to identify training gaps and recommend solutions.

Whether helping to train an F-16 fighter pilot or a Fortune 500 CEO, Aptima’s training experts understand performance requirements for complex environments.

TRAINING DEVELOPMENT

Most operational environments today are dynamic, with changing processes, people, technology and systems, often dispersed across wide areas. Such environments demand a continuous training process that builds on recent lessons learned, while at the same time enabling collaboration among distributed learners. Training in these environments can be time-intensive, expensive, and difficult to keep relevant.

Aptima’s instructional system designers and educational specialists use cutting edge theories of training and measurement to deliver maximal utility to our customers. By putting the science of training into practice, we meet the challenge of training in dynamic environments, while reducing the overall costs of development and maximizing the impact of our customers’ investments.

The art and science of training development. Aptima employs information technology and reusable system components (Cognitive Skills Training Software) to reduce the time and cost to develop new training. We create easy-to-use authoring tools that put content development in the hands of instructors. We apply specialized computational methods for real-time performance evaluation in simulated training environments. And we use our deep expertise in teamwork analysis to create web-based instruction tuned to distributed groups.

Aptima in action. Aptima has a proven track record of developing and delivering training and assessment technologies for a variety of different domains and purposes. For example, we have built training systems for Medical First Responders, and for our nation’s warfighters including Air Weapons Officers, Special Operations Helmsmen, and Intelligence Analysts.

LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT

Leaders face a host of challenges unheard of just a few decades ago. It is not uncommon to manage teams that are physically distributed around the globe, interacting only through cyberspace. Team members often come from multiple, diverse cultures. And the rapid distribution of information has produced flatter, less hierarchical, organizations in which younger and less-experienced employees may take on leadership responsibility earlier in their careers. In this rapidly evolving landscape, traditional leadership theories and leadership training programs fall short.

To help leaders overcome these challenges, Aptima has created training and development programs grounded in the most current theories of leadership, culture, and team performance. Our cost effective multimedia and web-based training programs allow developing leaders to participate in training from their own offices at times convenient to them – without travel expenses.

Aptima training solutions help prepare leaders for global interactions by using models of multicultural team dynamics. We’ve also developed a dynamic repository of “lessons-learned” that allows leaders at even the most senior levels to benefit from the experiences of others without requiring traditional face-to-face interactions.

Aptima in action. Aptima training solutions are proven in the most demanding leadership environments, including the U.S. military. Our mentoring system, for example, coaches Army officers on the most productive next steps for their career development. Leaders benefit from a wide variety of “virtual mentors,” and can use the forum to mentor others.

The army also uses our web-based training program to help Army leaders adapt their styles of interaction based on the cultural background of team members.

Commanding officers in charge of joint air operations centers use our training solutions to share experiences and to benefit from the experiences of their predecessors in this demanding role.
