Adaptable simulation for sociotechnical systems

Our flagship simulation product, DDD, is a highly adaptable simulation platform that captures the full complexity of today's sociotechnical systems. DDD models the core functions that drive team performance, such as communicating, sharing resources, making decisions, using technology, and coordinating tasks. It is unique in its ability to represent a wide range of environments, letting you create your own operating scenarios and use them to plan missions, conduct training and rehearsal exercises, perform team research, and many other applications involving individual players, teams, or teams of teams. Since DDD is client/server-based, participants can be geographically distributed and still interact as if they were all in the same location. Embedded within DDD are tools that capture and quantify performance, providing stop-action replay and other feedback measures to help team members improve their skills.

DDD

DDD represents a new generation of simulator, blending human-in-the-loop approaches (virtual), with algorithm and agent-based modes (constructive). It has been validated by 20 years of research on human behavioral modeling and four generations of technology advancement at Aptima. DDD's development has been funded in part by several government agencies, including the National Science Foundation (NSF), Air Force Office of Scientific Research (AFOSR), Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL), the Army Research Institute (ARI), Office of Naval Research (ONR), and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).

For over 10 years, DDD has been used by the US Navy to research adaptive command and control approaches. The US Air Force uses DDD to train teams in Air Operations Centers, preparing them to effectively track enemy targets and take action as mission conditions change. Law and business schools use DDD to teach negotiation and conflict resolution skills. Medical schools and emergency management organizations have run disaster preparedness exercises with DDD. R&D organizations use DDD as a test platform for evaluating new visual displays and other human interaction technologies.
