EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS

There has been a major push to improve coordination among all levels of government involved with emergency operations. Many of the resulting training programs have relied on unstructured practice and the sub-optimal use of costly, high-fidelity simulation.

Although well-intentioned, Aptima has found this to be an extremely inefficient approach. Instead, we develop low-cost training “accelerators” that help learners master the factual knowledge and decision-making skills they will need.  Students “hit the ground running” for the task at hand, or for the more advanced training that will come later.

Aptima scientists have developed several training accelerators for Army National Guard officers, emergency department staff, and first responders. As a result, these organizations have been able to make each training stage more efficient, while better utilizing their expensive simulation systems.

Aptima can also apply its extensive experience at designing military command and control operations, to the equivalent coordination challenges faced by emergency responders.   We have several model-based design and decision support tools that allow leaders to optimally structure their command organizations.
